Privacy Policy

Last updated: 12 June 2026 · Effective: [on launch]

Draft for legal review. This plain-English policy covers how Dammad handles personal information under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. It should be reviewed and finalised by a qualified privacy/legal professional before launch.

1 Introduction

This policy explains how Dammad Pty Ltd (ABN [insert]) handles your personal information when you use dammad.com.au and our services. We're committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

2 What we collect

Depending on how you use Dammad, we may collect:

  • Identity & contact details — name, email, phone, postcode/location.
  • Complaint information — the businesses you complain about, what happened, the outcome you want, and any evidence you upload.
  • Business account details — for businesses claiming a profile: business name, ABN, work email, and team member details.
  • Usage data — device, browser, IP address and how you interact with the Platform.

Please only include personal information about other people (such as a staff member you dealt with) where it's relevant to your complaint, and avoid sensitive information you don't need to share.

3 How we collect it

We collect information directly from you when you lodge a complaint, create or claim an account, or contact us; and automatically through cookies and analytics as you use the Platform. Occasionally we may collect information from third parties such as an ABN lookup service to verify a business.

4 Why we use it

  • To operate the Platform — registering complaints, notifying businesses, and tracking outcomes;
  • To verify identities and keep the Platform credible and safe;
  • To communicate with you about your complaints and account;
  • To moderate content and enforce our Terms;
  • To improve the Platform and, where relevant, produce anonymised, aggregated insights that don't identify you.

5 When we share it

We share personal information only as needed to run the service:

  • With the business you complain about — the details necessary for them to respond to your complaint.
  • With service providers — hosting, email, analytics and payment providers, bound to protect your data.
  • With regulators or ombudsmen — where you choose to escalate, or where required by law.

We don't sell your personal information.

6 Complaints that become public

Complaints may be published on a business's public profile. Where they are, we show a first name and last initial and a general location only — never your email, phone or address. You can choose to keep a complaint private when you lodge it. See our Terms for how publication and moderation work.

7 Storage & security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, including access controls and encryption in transit. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe and to respond promptly to any data breach in line with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

8 Access & correction

You can access and update most of your information from your account. You may also ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or to correct it, by emailing privacy@dammad.com.au. We'll respond within a reasonable time.

9 Cookies & analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember preferences, and understand how the Platform is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work without them.

10 Overseas disclosure

Some of our service providers may store or process data outside Australia. Where they do, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the APPs.

11 Retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above, to meet legal obligations, and to maintain accurate records of complaints and their outcomes. When it's no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.

12 Privacy complaints

If you think we've mishandled your personal information, email privacy@dammad.com.au and we'll investigate. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

13 Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified through the Platform, and the "last updated" date above will change.
